Late Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop Basil D’Souza invited the sisters of Franciscan Servants of Mary to render their service in St. Joseph’s Higher Primary school- Nainadu. The total number of students in the school then was around 400.
The Franciscan Brothers were kind enough to accommodate them in an already existing house in their campus.
The pioneers with Sr. Lawrentia as superior, Srs. Flavia and Fathima occupied their abode on June 16, 1993 and started their missionary work. It was difficult to manage the existing school which was understaffed having only 3 teachers for 7 classes. Trusting in God’s Providence the sisters began to teach in the school. Later, Sr. Helen D’Souza was transferred from Vittal to Nainadu to shoulder the responsibility of Headmistress. The Sisters involved themselves more relevantly for the all round development of the school and children.
The long awaited dream came true on April 16, 1995. The foundation stone was laid for the convent building. By the grace of the Almighty and the good will of donors’ the construction work was soon completed.
On May 16th, 1996, the new convent was blessed by the late Rev. Dr. Basil D’Souza.
Besides the school work, the sisters try to live Christ’s message of love, compassion, and truth through their apostolate. They actively participate in the catechetical and pastoral ministry of the area. Thus the mission at Nainadu is gradually flourishing in the midst of certain inconveniences like transport and lack of electricity.
